Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the eighth straight session on Friday. They remained sellers of stock options and index futures. However, they became buyers of stock futures, index options.
FIIs In Cash Market
Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the eighth straight session on Friday, as they offloaded shares worth approximately Rs 4,294.7 crore.
Domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the eighth straight session as they mopped up equities worth Rs 4,363.9 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
The FPIs sold stocks worth Rs 2,207.4 crore on Thursday. In February so far, overseas investors have offloaded equities worth Rs 21,272 crore. In 2025 so far, the FPIs have sold equities worth Rs 99,299 crore. In January, they offloaded stocks worth Rs 78,027 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd. data.
The Indian equity benchmark indices closed lower on Friday, registering the longest losing streak in two years, as Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Bharat Electronics Ltd. stocks dragged.
FIIs In Futures And Options
Ahead of the Feb. 27 expiry, the value of outstanding positions — also called open interest in the derivatives segment — has decreased for foreign institutional investors in the Nifty futures. The FIIs’ long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 16:84.
The FIIs sold stock options worth Rs 2,695 crore and index futures worth Rs 858 crore. They bought index options worth Rs 7,770 crore and stock futures worth Rs 485 crore.
FII Contract Value
The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market increased by Rs 66 crore at the end of February expiry, from Rs 39,913 crore a day earlier to Rs 39,979 crore.
F&O Cues
The Nifty February futures were down 0.59% to 22,995, at a premium of 66 points, with the open interest up by 0.65%.
The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Feb. 20 expiry series indicated most activity at 25,500 call strikes, with the 22,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.
Long-Short Ratio
The total long-short ratio for foreign investors fell slightly to 1.19 from 1.20 in the previous session.
