Is the Indian Stock Market Closed Today? The answer is Yes. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE will be closed for trading on Wednesday, Feb. 26 on the occasion of Mahashivratri. The Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, as well as SLB Segment of NSE and BSE will not host any trading activity on Feb. 26. No trading activity will take place on the day. The trading window shall remain closed in the currency and interest rate derivatives segments as well.

Investors and traders are advised to plan their transactions accordingly. Trading will resume as usual on Thursday, February 27.

In February, the stock markets will be closed for just one weekday apart from the weekends. However, on Saturday, Feb. 1, there was no weekend holiday due to the Union Budget 2025. This means that there are total eight stock market holidays in February 2025.

Trading in the equities segment takes place five days a week except for the weekend and other planned holidays. Here are the market timings for the equities segment.

A) Pre-open session

Order entry & modification Open: 09:00 hrs

Order entry & modification Close: 09:08 hrs*

*with random closure in last one minute. Pre-open order matching starts immediately after close of pre-open order entry.

B) Regular trading session

Normal/Limited Physical Market Open: 09:15 hrs

Normal/Limited Physical Market Close: 15:30 hrs

C) Closing Session

The Closing Session is held between 15.40 hrs and 16.00 hrs

D) Block Deal Session Timings:

Morning Window: This window shall operate between 08:45 hrs to 09:00 hrs

Afternoon Window: This window shall operate between 14:05 hrs to 14:20 hrs 

Note: The Exchange may, however, close the market on days other than the above scheduled holidays or may open the market on days originally declared as holidays. The Exchange may also extend, advance or reduce trading hours when it deems fit and necessary.

Mahashivratri is one of the holiest festivals in the Hindu calendar. The day is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The festival signifies the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees celebrate this day by fasting, offering prayers, and engaging in meditation to invoke Lord Shiva’s blessings for strength, wisdom, and spiritual growth.

Indian benchmark indices ended Tuesday’s session mixed, with the metal sector declining the most, while media emerged as a top sectoral gainer. The NSE Nifty 50 ended 5.80 points, or 0.03% lower at 22,547.55, while the BSE Sensex closed 147.71 points or 0.20% higher at 74,602.12.

Intraday, Sensex gained 0.44% to 74,785.08.

Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. were the top gainers during the day’s trade, while Hindalco Industries Ltd. and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. were the top laggards.
