Stock Market Holidays 2025: The Indian stock exchanges will observe a shortened trading week due to two public holidays. Markets remained closed on Monday, April 14, for Ambedkar Jayanti and will again be shut on Friday, April 18, in observance of Good Friday. As a result, both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE will remain closed for trading and settlement in stocks, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on this day.
Investors and traders are advised to plan their transactions accordingly. Trading will resume as usual on Monday, April 21.
Trading in equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts (EGR) will remain suspended on April 18.
Good Friday is the third weekday market holiday in April. The stock markets in India were closed on April 14 and April 10 on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti and Mahavir Jayanti respectively. Trading will also remain suspended on April 18 to mark Good Friday. Indian stock markets remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays of the month unless specified otherwise.
Good Friday is a Christian observance marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is a gazetted holiday in several Indian states. Hence, government offices, banks, public institutions, and schools etc, will remain closed on this day.
