This week, two public holidays during the weekdays led to the closure of government offices, schools, stock exchanges and some private institutions. Banks also remained closed across the country on account of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 and Good Friday on April 18.

With the extended Good Friday weekend, there is confusion about banks remaining open on Saturday, April 19.

As per the Reserve Bank of India’s bank holiday calendar, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. However, April 19 falls on the third Saturday of the month. So, banks across India will resume operations on April 19.

All banks remain closed on account of national holidays and regional festive days in different states, as per the RBI holiday calendar. Apart from the scheduled holidays, banks across the country also remain closed on Sundays.

Customers and businesses should plan their bank visits accordingly and check with their regional branches for specific working hours or closures.

A total of 11 bank holidays (on weekdays) have been listed by the RBI for the month of April on account of public holidays. Some of these are state-specific, while others were observed in nearly all the states, like Ambedkar Jayanti.
