February 20, Bank Holiday: The month of February is almost ending but not with a few holidays still ahead. Government offices, banks, stock exchanges, and other institutions will/might be closed on most of these holidays.
According to the Reserve Bank Of India’s annual holiday calendar, banks will remain closed in the northeastern states of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on Feb. 20. The day marks the anniversary of these two states getting full statehood.
Arunachal Pradesh was granted statehood on February 20, 1987, following its transition from the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) under the 53rd Amendment of the Indian Constitution. Similarly, Mizoram was granted full statehood on February 20, 1997, also through the 53rd Amendment.
On the days of bank holidays, one will not be able to carry out transactions or paperwork that require an in-person visit to the banks. While the RBI puts out a list on its official website, it is recommended that you check with your nearest branch regarding the bank holiday to avoid any last-minute panic. However, internet banking, UPI and other related activities will continue to function as usual.
