US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a special meeting on Thursday. Modi described the meeting as the beginning of a ‘Mega’ partnership, symbolising the integration of ‘MAGA’ (Make America Great Again) and ‘MIGA’ (Make India Great Again).

His comments came during a joint press conference with the US President, who hosted him for wide-ranging talks, including bilateral trade, security, nuclear cooperation and fighting terrorism.

“If I say in the language of America, developed India means Make India Great Again, that is, ‘MIGA’. When the United States and India work together, that is, ‘MAGA’ plus ‘MIGA’, the ‘MEGA’ partnership for prosperity is formed. And this mega spirit gives new scale and scope to our goals,” he said during the joint conference.

During their meeting at the Oval Office, both the leaders decided to double the bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, with a focus on energy, defence, and technology cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi also announced plans to launch an Autonomous Systems Industry Alliance, with a framework for defence cooperation that will shape the coming decade.

Modi also highlighted initiatives like the I-MEECH economic corridor, collaboration in space through ISRO and NASA, and strengthened supply chains for critical minerals.

Trump announced plans to strengthen US-India economic ties, including increasing military sales, potentially providing India with F-35 stealth fighters, and boosting energy sales. The US President emphasised on the importance of the Quad alliance in maintaining Indo-Pacific peace and prosperity.

Trump praised India’s efforts in nuclear energy reform and joint ventures in AI, semiconductors, and biotech. Additionally, he addressed trade imbalances, seeking to reduce the nearly $100 billion trade deficit through discussions and potential energy trade.
