Nifty, Sensex Fall After Muted Open As HDFC Bank, Infosys Share Prices Drag
The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex declined shortly after a muted open tracking losses in shares of HDFC Bank Ltd. and Infosys Ltd. As of 9:16 a.m., the Nifty 50 was trading 39.05 points or 0.16% down at 24,149.60, and the Sensex was 112.02 points or 0.14% down at 79,831.69.
“On the downside, the 24,000 level remains a crucial support zone; a breach of this level could trigger extended selling towards the 23,800–23,600 range. Conversely, on the upside, immediate resistance is observed at 24,300, with the 24,500 level acting as a significant hurdle. Given the current market setup, traders are advised to start buying on dips as long as the index holds above 24,000, with 23,800 as a stop-loss on a closing basis to manage risks effectively,” said Hardik Matalia, a derivative analyst at Choice Broking.
HDFC Bank Ltd., Infosys Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., and Hero MotoCorp Ltd. weighed on the Nifty 50 index.
Oil and Natural Gas Corp Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., HCLTech Ltd., Trent Ltd. and JSW Steel Ltd. added to the Nifty 50 index.
On NSE, six sectors advanced, four declined, and two remained flat out of 12. The NSE IT was the worst performing sector during open, while the NSE Nifty Media the best performing sector.
Broader markets outperformed benchmark indices. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were trading 0.26% and 0.48% higher, respectively.
On BSE, 16 sectors advanced, and five declined out of 21. The BSE Oil and Gas rose the most, and the BSE Focused IT declined the most.
Market breadth was skewed in favour of buyers. Around 1,992 advanced, 719 stocks declined, and 120 remained unchanged on BSE.
