Most markets in the Asia-Pacific markets were trading lower tracking overnight movements in the US, and as the Japanese yen strengthened past the US dollar.

The Nikkei 225 was 0.03% down, and the S&P ASX 200 declined 0.21%. The Hang Seng and CSI 300 were trading 2.49% and 0.34% higher, respectively.

On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 ended 1.01% and 0.43% lower, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.47%.

The brent crude was trading flat at $76.47 a barrel. The Bloomberg spot gold was trading 0.05% higher at $2,940.59 an ounce.

The GIFT Nifty was trading 51 points or 0.22% down at 22,864.50 as of 8:04 a.m.

India’s benchmark stock indices extended losses for the third straight day on Thursday, weighed down by underperformance in financial heavyweights HDFC Bank Ltd. and ICICI Bank Ltd.

The NSE Nifty 50 closed 19.75 points, or 0.09%, lower at 22,913.15, while the BSE Sensex declined 203.22 points, or 0.27%, to 75,735.96.

Foreign portfolio investors remained net sellers for the second consecutive day, offloading Indian equities worth approximately Rs 3,311.6 crore. Domestic institutional investors continued their buying streak for the 12th session, purchasing equities worth Rs 3,907.6 crore, as per provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar, gaining 29 paise to close at Rs 86.66 per dollar, according to Bloomberg.
